Chania in 7 Days
Chania in 7 Days

Crete is unique by origin and so are its flavors! Join this tasteful tour and explore the authentic aromas, recipes and local ingredients of this great island.

The largest island of Greece and a border to another continent, the cradle of Minoan civilization and a rare blend of Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman culture, all weaved into a modern net with a signature of the free and robust Mediterranean spirit.

Day 1 - Arrive and get settled
Arrive at Chania and check-in at a 5* hotel. Enjoy the hotel facilities and relax by the beach. Meet the group guide and your fellow travelers, and enjoy together a welcome dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Day 2 – Chania Old Town & Port
Begin your day with a guided tour of Chania old town. Have a taste of history, tradition and local products. Continue with a visit to the municipal cross-shaped Market Hall - a live showcase of all fresh local aromas & flavors. Next stop: Akrotiri (Cape), where you will enjoy a cooking demonstration by a chef and a marvelous dinner at an exquisite restaurant, all in a delightful environment with panoramic views.

Day 3 – Sea & Fish (Kisamos, Gramvousa & Balos)
Spend half the day in the sea! You will sail on a private yacht to the Gramvousa islet and the impressive Balos Lagoon. On the way, try your fishing skills, under the skipper’s guidance and get to know the local kinds of seafood and fish. Enjoy swimming and relaxation in fascinating turquoise waters. Have a fish cooking class at the best taverna in the area, where you will learn how to properly clean, marinate and barbeque fish in a traditional way. Right after, you will enjoy a delicious seafood lunch!

Day 4 – The blessed olive tree (Vouves, Astrikas & Vamos)
This is an “all about olive oil” kind of day, starting with a visit to an exclusive organic olive oil producing facility. Have a guided tour of the factory and taste olives and oil varieties. Visit the Olive Tree Museum to observe the oldest olive tree in the world! Next stop will be an old stone-built traditional village with excellent-preserved architecture. You will attend a hands-on cooking class of local seasonal dishes and enjoy a rich traditional meal. To enhance the olive-concept of the day, your cooking class and lunch will be hosted in a renovated old oil-press!

Day 5 – Herbs, honey and wine (Agia lake, Skordalou, Pontikiana)
This day is dedicated to herbs & wine! Your day starts with an insight to honey production. You will then visit a botanical park of unique standards. Follow a guided tour of the park and learn everything about Cretan herbs and edible greens, while attending a cooking class of a local recipe based on these very ingredients! Taste the fruits of your labor in a country-style lunch. Attend a professional food photography seminar.

The next stop is a local winery, where the owner will take you on a tour around the vineyards, the cellars and rest of the winery premises. An introduction to wine-making will come along with a generous variety of wines to taste next to home-made cheese and “country-style” hard bread.

Day 6 – Cheese & Meat (Fres, Tzitzifes) Start the day with a visit to a modern dairy production unit where you will have a tour and cheese tasting. Witness the old traditional version of the dairy production in a nearby village. You will observe the cheese maturing in an underground stone-built dome, in 100% naturally attained conditions of light and temperature and taste the products.

Learn how to cook a traditional meal with fresh ingredients and enjoy a delicious lunch with the most magnificent mountain view. In the evening, gather at the hotel for a goodbye dinner.
